As the founders of Breast Cancer Campaign and Pink Ribbon, Estee Lauder Companies tasked Aces of Space Studios to create a sensorial studio for a one-day shoot, as well as an event featuring inspirational breast cancer survivors telling their stories, for the Campaign’s 30 year anniversary. Working closely with the Estee Lauder creative team, we designed and built a Breast Cancer Pink studio, complete with stage and pink carpet, with a round cut-out vista of a field of wheat under a technicolored sunset.
Wheat fields are symbolic of prosperity, optimism and abundance, so for each survivor who was invited for a makeover and to feature on the moderated panel, it was a fitting image of rebirth and growth. Images of the guests’ memories were projected onto a curtain behind the panel, forming an emotional bond with the audience. The combination of the projected memories, bright sunset backdrop and lush wheat fields offers the unique opportunity of the viewer to see into the survivors challenging past, the present and into their hopeful future.
Each individual wheat stalk was painstakingly applied into the field by hand, a mammoth task for our team of nine, who took a whole day to install the field. The group of inspirational survivors were interviewed in front of the audience about their personal journeys, their dreams and why they beat the disease. The wheat field and serene backdrop not only provided the perfect scene for the panel, but also a memorable experience for the audience alike, who are still talking about the success of the event and the experiential experience it provided them.
The rationale behind these inspirational events is to raise awareness and education of self-examination, symptoms and prevention, and to raise funds for research into its causes, treatments and cure, and providing medical services to vulnerable groups with limited healthcare access. It was a great privilege to work with such a prestigious client as Estee Lauder Companies, especially for such a momentous occasion on their 30th Anniversary during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
